Mainstream and independent film's differ hugely in style, therefore the film opening will also differ.

Mainstream: mainstream film openings will be more dramatic: closer to a film trailer, this would be due to their being more money funded into it, this means that mainstream film openings will often have use of CGI/animation to capture the interest of the audience an example: Casino royal. Casino Royal is nearly entirely made up of animation. This also allows for mainstream films to be more bold in how they express themes, as they can fit all the themes of the film in simply without giving to much away. Titles will be grandly edited bold and entertaining.

A independent film however will stereotypically have a tight budget, therefore wont be able to produce animation to guide it. The lack of finance will also mean that the independent film company wont be able to afford the technology of a mainstream film, it may lack: High quality cameras, animation (as stated previously) and equipotent such as cranes to get the camera shot, it may lack Filming quality also.
This means in order to make an effective opening independent film company's must rely more on intelligent s and sophistication, as they cant afford these effects, they may do something such as a continues tracking shot (cheaper yet interesting). As they cannot afford certain effects as stated previously in order of promoting genre, themes ect. they may have to more practically include them in the opening (hence being more subtle). Titles as cheaper and will therefore be less interesting unless used intelligently: for example working it into the movie (looking at a sign saying Pro Production).
